EA Sports FC 27 is officially entering its launch window, bringing one of the biggest refreshes yet to EA’s football franchise.
Early Access began September 18, while the worldwide release is scheduled for September 25, 2026. This year’s game introduces a new social football experience called The Grounds, major gameplay changes, a rebuilt transfer market in Career Mode, a new FUT Gallery and several updates inspired directly by community feedback. (EA)
Here’s a look at some of the biggest changes, new features and interesting details in EA Sports FC 27.
01FC 27 Puts More Control in the Player’s Hands
One of EA’s biggest goals with FC 27 is reducing the amount of automation during matches.
EA says community feedback repeatedly called for players to have more control over important moments, particularly when defending. In Competitive gameplay, AI-controlled defenders have been adjusted to reduce automatic defensive intervention and place greater responsibility on the player controlling the defender.
Manual defending has also received improvements, while attacking players are designed to make smarter runs and better recognize open space. (EA Forums)
The result could make FC 27 feel noticeably different from previous games, especially for competitive players accustomed to relying on defensive AI.
02Corners and Crosses Have Been Reworked
Set pieces are another area receiving significant attention.
FC 27 introduces dynamic corner kicks along with improvements to positioning, player movement and physical interactions inside the penalty area. Crossing has also been reworked, with EA adding more variety to crosses, headers and finishing opportunities. (EA)
EA is also giving players more control over attacking runs, including manually triggered overlapping and underlapping runs.
Combined with changes to through balls, dribbling and attacking awareness, these updates are designed to create more ways to build an attack rather than relying on the same patterns repeatedly.
03The Grounds Is FC 27’s Biggest New Mode
Perhaps the most interesting addition is The Grounds, a new social football environment that mixes street-football culture with the traditional FC experience.
Players can participate in casual Kickabouts, compete in 1v1 situations, develop their created footballer and play with friends through Clubs.
EA describes The Grounds as a social football playground where “the streets meet the stadium.” The mode is intended to extend the Clubs experience beyond simply joining a match, giving players another space to develop and express their virtual football identity. (EA)
The Grounds, including Clubs, is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of FC 27. (EA)
04Career Mode Gets a Rebuilt Transfer Market
Career Mode players are getting some significant changes as well.
Manager Career features a rebuilt Transfer Market designed around more realistic player valuations and increased competition between clubs.
Other clubs can actively bid for players, while negotiations now include additional options such as performance-related clauses and buy-back clauses. (EA)
Another interesting addition is Dynamic OVRs.
Rather than treating a player’s overall rating as completely static, the system can reflect factors including form, morale and fitness.
That could make squad management more important and create additional uncertainty when deciding whether to buy, sell or continue developing a player.
05Ultimate Team Introduces the FUT Gallery
Football Ultimate Team is also getting a new feature called the FUT Gallery.
Instead of viewing every player item purely as something to use in a squad or eventually replace, players can curate favorite items inside their Gallery.
Building the collection increases the Gallery Level, which can unlock rewards and provides another progression system throughout the season. (EA)
It’s an interesting shift toward treating Ultimate Team cards more like a long-term collection representing the history of a player’s club.
06EA Is Already Making Changes Based on Beta Feedback
Another notable part of the FC 27 launch is how quickly EA has been discussing player feedback.
Following the Closed Beta, EA outlined changes related to physical play, Team Press, Lengthy players and other gameplay systems.
The company has also addressed concerns about major gameplay balance changes immediately after launch and says player feedback will continue to influence updates during the opening period of FC 27. (EA)
That means the FC 27 players experience during launch week may continue evolving as EA collects data and feedback from the much larger post-release player base.
07FC 27 Has More Than 21,000 Players
Authenticity remains a major part of the franchise.
According to EA, FC 27 includes more than 21,000 footballers, representing more than 800 clubs and national teams, playing across more than 140 stadiums and more than 35 leagues. (EA)
One notable return this year is Liga MX, following a new agreement bringing the Mexican league back into the EA Sports FC ecosystem.
EA has also continued or expanded partnerships involving competitions including the Bundesliga, ROSHN Saudi League and A-League. (EA News)
08FC 27 Has a Massive 120-Song Soundtrack
The FC soundtrack has become almost as recognizable as some of the game’s modes, and FC 27 continues that tradition.
EA says this year’s soundtrack contains 120 tracks representing artists from 36 countries.
The lineup includes artists such as The Strokes, Interpol, The Neighbourhood, The War on Drugs, Royal Blood, Chase & Status, Little Simz, Nia Archives and Barry Can’t Swim, alongside emerging artists from around the world. (EA)
09Mbappé and Bellingham Share the Spotlight
Real Madrid stars Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham are among the major faces of FC 27.
The two appear together on the Ultimate Plus Edition cover, continuing Bellingham’s association with the franchise while giving Mbappé another prominent role in EA’s football series. (EA News)
10There’s Even a Free FC 27 Lite Version
One of the more unusual additions this year is EA Sports FC 27 Lite.
EA says the free-to-download version will launch September 25 and provide a limited preview of FC 27, including access to select experiences such as Kick-Off.
Players who want the complete experience can then upgrade to the full game. (EA)
FC 27 Lite is scheduled for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC through the EA App, Steam and Epic Games Store. (EA)
11PC Players Get Some Attention Too
PC improvements include faster launch times, expanded graphics settings, a VRAM indicator and redesigned keyboard controls.
Players can choose between new WASD or Arrow Key layouts, while additional shortcuts make tactical changes easier without moving away from the primary movement controls. (EA)
EA has also expanded visual options for players with higher-end PC hardware.
12When Does EA Sports FC 27 Release?
EA Sports FC 27 launches worldwide on September 25, 2026.
Players with eligible Ultimate editions received up to seven days of Early Access beginning September 18. (EA)
The game is coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, although certain features vary depending on platform. (EA News)
13FC 27 Could Be an Important Year for the Series
Rather than focusing on one dramatic technological change, EA Sports FC 27 appears to be targeting many of the areas players interact with every day.
Less automated defending, improved attacking movement, revamped crosses and corners, a rebuilt Career Mode transfer system, the FUT Gallery and the entirely new Grounds experience all point toward a broader effort to give players more control and more ways to play.
EA is also promising continued updates after launch, with additional development resources being directed toward Ultimate Team, The Grounds, Career Mode and quality-of-life improvements throughout the season. (EA)
With Early Access already underway and the worldwide launch arriving September 25, players won’t have to wait much longer to find out how significant those changes feel on the virtual pitch.
