EA’s next soccer game launches worldwide on September 25, introducing The Grounds, a rebuilt transfer market and major changes to defending.

Electronic Arts has officially unveiled EA Sports FC 27, the next installment in its flagship soccer franchise. This year’s release promises more than updated rosters and redesigned menus. EA is introducing a new social experience, revising core gameplay and giving Career Mode players greater control away from the pitch.
The game will launch worldwide on September 25, 2026, according to Electronic Arts’ official announcement.
Players who purchase the Ultimate or Ultimate Plus Edition can begin playing on September 18. EA Play members will also receive a 10-hour trial beginning that day.
The Grounds Opens a New Side of the Game
The biggest addition is The Grounds, a social football environment built around quick matches, player development and online competition.
Players will be able to explore three districts inspired by global soccer culture, compete in casual kickabouts and one-on-one matches, or join friends through Clubs. Created players can be customized and developed with guidance from virtual mentors including Kylian Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, Paulo Dybala and Alex Hunter.
The Grounds will only be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It will not appear in the PlayStation 4, Xbox One or original Nintendo Switch versions.
Defending Is Becoming More Manual
EA says FC 27 has been shaped by feedback from its player community.
The updated gameplay system will feature more fluid movement, improved attacking awareness and dynamic corner kicks. Defending is also being rebalanced to reduce the influence of automatic computer-controlled interventions.
That change should place more responsibility on the person holding the controller. Positioning, timing and manually selecting the right defender are expected to matter more, particularly in competitive matches.
Additional gameplay details are available on the official EA Sports FC 27 website.
Career Mode Gets a Smarter Transfer Market
Manager Career will introduce a rebuilt transfer market designed to create more realistic competition between clubs.
Teams will actively bid for players, while negotiations will include additional options such as performance incentives and buy-back clauses. Dynamic player ratings will respond to form, morale and fitness throughout the season.
These changes could make squad building less predictable and give long-term careers a stronger sense of progression.
Ultimate Team Introduces FUT Gallery
Football Ultimate Team is getting a new collection feature called FUT Gallery.
Players will be able to display favorite Player Items, increase their Gallery Level and unlock rewards. The feature is designed to give each club a more personal identity while adding another progression system beyond building a competitive squad.
EA will reveal more information about Ultimate Team, The Grounds and Clubs through dedicated presentations in August.
A Free Version Will Be Available at Launch
EA is also preparing FC 27 Lite, a free, limited preview arriving on September 25.
The downloadable version will provide access to selected experiences, including Kick-Off, with the option to upgrade to the complete game. It offers players a way to test FC 27 before committing to a purchase.
The company has published a complete comparison of the Standard, Ultimate and Ultimate Plus versions in its official editions and release-date guide.
Platforms, Clubs and Cover Stars
EA Sports FC 27 will be released for:
- PlayStation 5
- PlayStation 4
- Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox One
- PC
- Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch 2
EA says the game will include more than 21,000 players, over 800 clubs and national teams, more than 140 stadiums and at least 35 leagues.
Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham are leading this year’s promotional campaign. Mbappé appears across all three editions, while the two Real Madrid stars share the Ultimate Plus cover.
More Than a Roster Update
Annual sports games often face the same question: Is the new edition different enough to justify another purchase?
For FC 27, the answer may depend on execution. The Grounds is the most visible addition, but the quieter changes to defending, transfers and player development could have a greater impact over an entire season.
EA Sports FC 27 does not attempt to reinvent soccer. It focuses instead on the parts of the experience players interact with most — controlling a defender, signing a new star and sharing the game with friends.
The first whistle sounds September 25.
