Williams gives Chicago two ways to hurt a defense
Williams threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns, then added 65 yards and two more scores on the ground. His 124.1 passer rating captured a productive passing day, but his running was just as important to the result.
A 29-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter sent Chicago into halftime ahead 31–24. Swift and Monangai turn the ground game into the headline
D’Andre Swift followed his new contract extension with 124 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. Kyle Monangai needed only 10 carries to reach 100 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown.
Together, they supplied 224 of Chicago’s 291 rushing yards. According to the team, it was the first time since 1980 that an NFL team had two players rush for at least 100 yards in its season opener.
The decisive stretch came after Carolina tied the game at 31 in the third quarter. Swift scored from a yard out, and Monangai’s long run pushed the advantage to 45–31. This was a convincing win, not a shutdown performance. Bryce Young passed for 361 yards and three touchdowns, while Jalen Coker caught eight passes for 138 yards and two scores.
